Easy Peasy Crochet Cushion Pattern

Hi everyone! Now that I've taught you some of the basics, I thought it would be fun to write you guys a pattern so you can use your new found skills! This basic cushion pattern is super easy and a great project for beginners. This pattern is made to fit a 14" cushion insert, if you would like to make this for a bigger cushion, I will explain how to do this throughout the pattern below. What you'll need:

  • 1-2 100g balls of 100% acrylic yarn in 8 ply (I used Spotlights Marvel in Charcoal)
  • 5mm crochet hook
  • 1 cushion insert (14"-16" depending on how full you want your cushion to look)
  • Scissors
  • Darning needle

Stitches used/ abbreviations:

  • Chain Stitch (CH)
  • U.S Half double Crochet (UK Half Treble Crochet) (HDC)
  • U.S Single Crochet (UK Double Crochet)

Pattern:

* Make Two * Start with a slip stitch, Ch 50 If you are using a bigger cushion insert, chain as many needed to achieve width of cushion leaving approximately 1 inch on either side. This will ensure your cushion cover fits nice and tight on your cushion insert.IMG_0929IMG_E0943 Row 1- Skip first two CH and HDC into third CH from hook, continue with HDC until end of row. (You will have 48 stitches. Chains skipped at beginning DO NOT count as a HDC)IMG_E0919 Row 2 - CH two, turn your work and HDC to end of row  (48)IMG_E0920 Row 3-40 - Repeat row 2 (48) Row 41 - Repeat row 2, CH one DO NOT finish off second square. (You may finish off the first one, including sewing in your ends) Place both pieces flat on top of each other, right sides together. (Both sides will be exactly the same so it doesn't really matter which is your wrong or right side)IMG_E0988 Using SC and your working yarn from your second square, insert your hook through both squares and SC along three out of four edges to join.IMG_E0991 Once you have joined three edges, join the fourth edge using SC but only half way down (leaving a gap to squeeze your cushion insert through). Finish off, leaving a long end for sewing.IMG_E0994 Turn cushion cover 'inside out'. (Your seam should look like this)IMG_E0996 Insert cushion insert (It may be a tight fit but thats ok! Just squeeze it in) Using darning needle sew remaining hole closed.IMG_E0997 Finish off, sew in end and VOILA cushion complete!IMG_1023 2IMG_1028 2I hope this pattern was easy enough to understand.
